There is nothing out there that can turn relaxed into refined like the Lexus IS.

For drivers with aspirations that entail both sport and luxury, the Lexus IS is a refined vehicle with high-tech features and a variety of hot packages with serious performance.

A Brief History of the Lexus IS

The Lexus IS was first sold under the Toyota Altezza in 1998, though it wasn’t until 1999 that they rebadged the car with some luxury features.

Uncompromised Technology and Design – The Lexus IS

The 2019 Lexus IS comes with a few different engine choices, including a turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a V-6 engine, each of which can be paired with a six-speed or eight-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel-drive is standard, though all-wheel-drive is now available for those who want to get more out of their driving. The IS also has an F Sport package that brings in adaptive dampers and a sturdy chassis for better transitioning.

The interior features well-bolstered seating and intuitive switchgear, giving people the feel of a futuristic cockpit. The infotainment system comes with a standard 7.0” touchscreen, though drivers have the option of upgrading to a 10.3” touchscreen as well. Some of the top driver-assistance features include lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic high-beam headlamps.

A Generational Timeline of the Lexus IS

  • First Generation Lexus IS (1998-2005)

The first-generation Lexus IS utilized a 2.0L engine that was able to put out 155 horsepower, though drivers could also opt for a 214 horsepower version. Each configuration had a rear-wheel-drive system, front ventilated discs, and rear standard discs. By 2001, Lexus introduced the IS Sport Cross.

  • Second Generation Lexus IS (2005-2015)

The second-generation IS came with two engine configurations, including the 250 and 350 variants. By 2008, the IS received a larger grille, larger brakes, a wider front, and a more powerful 5.0L V-8 engine with 416 horsepower.

  • Third Generation Lexus IS (2015-Present)

The third-generation IS received a hybrid variant and an even more powerful motor. By 2016, the car received a new 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder while ditching the V-6. The IS can now be fitted with the Enform Service Connect Feature, which allows drivers to use a smartphone app to check their car parameters.
