When it comes to developing stylish, budget-friendly, and fuel-efficient vehicles, Hyundai has been on a roll.
The Kona is one of the most charming vehicles that has come out in the past couple of years. With a tight and punchy powertrain that is fun to drive and a stylish design that provides you with class when the kids aren’t in the car, the Hyundai Kona is one of the most well-rounded compact crossovers on the market today.
A Short History of the Hyundai Kona
The Hyundai Kona first made its debut back in June of 2017, and the production version of the car came out later in the year. The Kona Electric, otherwise known as the Kona EV, was made to be the world’s first-ever subcompact crossover SUV, though it wasn’t launched until the first-half of 2018.
Standout Technology and Performance of the Hyundai Kona
The 2019 Hyundai Kona gives drivers the choice between multiple powertrains, which are available on the SE and SEL models. The main engine is a four-cylinder that puts out 147 horsepower and is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. When you get up to the Limited and Ultimate trims, the crossover receives a much more exciting turbocharged four-cylinder engine that puts out 175 horsepower with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
While the Kona has a funky outward appearance, the interior is fairly refined and comfortable, making it more of a grown-up vehicle. There are simple analog gauges in front of the steering wheel that are sat alongside a slimmer digital readout. The steering wheel is leather-wrapped and has integrated controls. The lower-level trims come with a quality 7.0” touchscreen infotainment system, though you can also upgrade to a larger 8.0” infotainment touchscreen if you choose.
Some of the driver-assistance features that are standard include automated emergency braking and lane-keeping assist. There are also available automatic high-beam lamps for those who decide to upgrade.
The First Generation of the Hyundai Kona
The Hyundai Kona is still very much in its first generation and not much has changed since the introduction of the vehicle. With that said, they did launch a few different editions of the vehicle. In July of 2019, Hyundai released the Kona Electric in India, as well as the Electric Lite. They also released a special Iron Man edition in 2019 as well.
The Hyundai Kona in the News
In recent news, Hayden Paddon, the famed WRC driver, is busy working on an incredible EV racer. This electric rally car, made out of a modified Hyundai Kona, will have a whopping 800 bhp. Beyond that, the car looks absolutely killer.
Celebrity Endorsements of the Hyundai Kona
Unfortunately, we have been unable to find any celebrities who endorse the Hyundai Kona. With that being said, there are a wide variety of celebrities that endorse other Hyundai vehicles on the market. Some of those celebrities include Snoop Dogg, who purchased Hyundai automobiles for his entire family, Gangnam Style star Psy, who cruise around in his Hyundai Equus, and Metta World Peace, who has a custom Hyundai Genesis.
